Picking the right sunglasses.

The sun is finally here, so it is time to get the sunnies out. But picking the right pair for you can take a bit of thought. There are two main things to consider when picking sunglasses, the shape of the frame and the lens. What frame shape is best for you is influenced by the shape of your face; are you Round, Square, Oval, Rectangular, Diamond or Heart? There are many websites to help work this out. Round – If you have a round face, you want to avoid curved... Read More

A Kyrgyzstan Snowboarding Adventure Part 2

Safe Safety Equipment Ortovox avalanche transceiver (with new batteries and spares). Mines becoming a little dated now so I will update when the new lines come out next year. A good resource I found is beaconreviews.com. BCA metal shovel – better without the ripples in the bottom so the snow doesn’t stick. Plastic ones aren’t great when going into ice so I’d go metal every time. Black diamond 260 probe. Deuter ABS on top 30 litre pack. The pack itself was decent and one of the better ones out there.... A Kyrgyzstan Snowboarding Adventure

I’ve been involved with LD mountain centre for a number of years now and they’re  a great bunch of guys and girls who genuinely know about and use the kit they sell.  After returning from an epic (last minute) trip to the Tien Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan with the 40 tribes crew a little over a week ago, we thought you may appreciate some kit info on touring in Central Asia so here goes. It’s one of the best experiences I’ve had and involved meeting some great... Read More

Skiing on the Fells, Moors and Dales

Whenever the conversation gets round to skiing most people immediately conjure up images of the Alps or North America, with resorts such as Val d’Isère , Kitzbuhel , Aspen and Whistler perhaps springing to mind.  But let’s face it, most of us don’t live near these places and most of us have to work for a living so if you want regular skiing or boarding then you often have to look a little closer to home. In the north of England we have a few secret spots that are considerably... Read More

New brands for the winter!

So it’s getting to that time of year again for us at the LD Mountain Centre. The (even) colder months are coming round all too quickly again as we will begin to get winter stock at the end of this month. Although we haven’t had much of a summer, we do have exciting new brands to look forward to for the winter. 686 On November 13, 1992, the 686 technical apparel company was formed. The 686 name comes from a crucial date in the life of Mike’s grandmother (June 6th,... Read More

Skiing Scotland in May…

After something of a disappointing ski season north of the border, the last few weeks have seen the skiers and boarders in store frothing at the mouth, as snow falls over parts of Northern Scotland in May. Last week Pete and Gina headed to the Cairngorms for some backcountry skiing, they were greeted by fresh snow, friendly lifties and a blue sky, it was so good they stayed for an extra day, and put together this little film. [vimeo 41627243 w=500 h=281] As reports flooded back south, the web team... Read More
