The Sweet Protection story was born out of the fact that skateboarding was banned in Norway until 1989 and one of the founders and design manager, Ståle Møller was part of this early "illegal" scene in Trysil. As a designer Ståle became interested in making functional clothing and equipment for skaters, kayakers and snowboarders with the emphasis on safety and protection. He saw that as the boundaries were being pushed in terms of what you could do on a board or in a kayak so the need to minimise the chances of being injured was the challenge. The company proper was established in 2000 and was joined by another uncompromising norwegian designer Terje Håkonsen. This has been and still is what Sweet Protection do, everything they produce is based around functionality and using the strongest lightest materials possible. When it comes to personal protection you don't want to compromise and neither do Sweet Protection.
