You can't compromise on safety if you intend snowboarding off piste. You need to be carrying all the very best safety equipment and make sure you know how to use it. It's no good standing at a pile of avalanche debris and realising you've never actually opened up your avalanche probe or turned your transceiver to receive rather than transmit.
