Glentress and the Lost Gloves
Sometimes you just have to go for it, regardless of the weather, although I must admit that the older I get the more I have a preference for fair weather. Anyway Neil, James and I had planned a quick day trip up to Glentress as a welcome change to hitting the bike trails at our more local Hamsterley Forest.
The Playpus, Dakine and Osprey bags got a good field test!
The forecast wasn’t great and the rain came and went as we drove up through the Borders and under tyre was obviously going to be a bit soggy. A heavy drizzle and low cloud shrouded the top of the forest as we arrived so we decided to head to the cafe for a brew and see if things improved.

As you can probably guess things didn’t get any better so we headed off up the climb to the Buzzard’s Nest car park and from there put together a route that was a mix of the red and blue routes including Spooky Woods and some of the nice flowing bits of the blue, including Betty Blue and Blue Velvet. We actually had a good ride and as is often the case, once you get going you forget about the poor weather and we just enjoyed the great trails Glentress has to offer.

Cameras and phones stayed in their dry bags so we didn’t get any good pics till the end as you can see. Amusingly the following day I got a text from Neil to ask if he’d left his gloves in my car, unfortunately not I replied. The next day we were all back in the shop and James had also seemed to mislay his gloves. On closer inspection of the photos from the end of the ride we discovered what had happened as you can see from the pictures included here. On the upside, and there’s always an upside, the old guy remembered to take his gloves home!
Sod’s Law, as soon as we got back the sun came out
