Bike Packing around the North York Moors
A couple of weeks ago our illustrious leader (shop manager) Neil was allowed some time off and headed away for a three day bike packing trip around the North York Moors here’s what he got up to.
Day 1 Rosedale Abbey to Sleights 40km (45km with detour)
Day one got off to a good start with sunshine and a bit of cloud but thankfully no rain. Most of the day was moorland single track & faster bridleways with the end of the day finished off with a big 20-25% hill, nice!!! One slight error was a 5km detour when over enthusiasm an a fast & fun downhill took us in the wrong direction, Doh!!! Finished off with good pub meal and a pint.
Day 2 Sleights to South Moor Farm Dalby Forest 52km
A much easier but longer day mainly on the coastal cinder track from Whitby to Scarbourgh finished off with forest single track & bridleways. Glorious day of sunshine and great coastal scenery finished off with a hearty home cooked fish pie, bread and butter pudding plus beers at Southmoor Farm B&B. MMMM!!!! Just what we needed.
Day 3 South Moor Farm Dalby Forest to Rosedale Abbey 35km
Our last day with legs feeling a bit heavy but still ready to head back to Rosedale Abbey. Nice single track to start with some bridleway and our first rain!!!! This was a great day of mainly single track with some tiring grassy sections, and a couple of pushes!!! But mainly good fun and a good finish with a Panini & a pint, then home!
We found a lot of kit crosses over from backpacking to bikepacking, except the bikes obviously, and as usual my favourite Icebreaker Oasis Half Zip and waterproof Sealskinz Socks came up trumps.
