Coronavirus Update:

Next Working Day Delivery is available (highlands and islands excluded).

Amidst the disruption of COVID-19, our fantastic warehouse team are safely dispatching your web orders and handling customer service enquiries. To help prevent the spread of the virus and keep our staff as safe as possible, we have reduced our customer service hours to 11:00 - 17:00 Monday to Friday.

Returns Update:

From the 9th March/2020, any returning orders must first be authorised via email, web@ldmountaincentre.com.

To do this, simply email with your reference number, product name and reason for return. Once authorisation has been received you are free to return the item to store within the 28-day policy as described below. Please ensure that any returned items are sent using an Insured and Traceable mail service as LD Mountain Centre cannot accept any responsibility for items lost whilst in transit.

In the event of a UK lockdown sanctioned by the government, whereby communities are required to self-isolate, we understand courier services may not be available in the affected areas. During this period any returns with email authorisation can be held by the customer until courier companies are back in action. Once courier operations are accessible a 14 day period will start in which products must be returned/received in store.

Please note: We ask that any returned items are unused/unworn and are returned within the same packaging as they arrived, with their product tags still attached. Any items received in-store with signs of use will be returned to the customer and will not be exchanged/refunded.

Any items returned beyond the standard policy period without authorisation will not be accepted and will be returned to the customer without exception.

We will actively communicate updates as they become available. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this challenge together.

Great Jacket

Before you buy an expensive insulated jacket like this one there’s a few things to consider. Why you’re buying it, it’s size and it’s comfort. I’ve read a few reviews on this before buying it and a lot said it was oversized. I’m 6’2” 14-15 stone and a large fits me perfect with one mid layer but even with just a t-shirt it’s a good fit. So I’d say it’s true to size. Secondly a few said this jacket was too warm for the uk environment. I strongly disagree with that but it does depend how you use it. This type of jacket isn’t designed to be used while you’re exerting yourself on a scramble or climbing a hill/mountain. If you wear this while doing anything like that you will overheat. It’s designed to be packed away while you’re walking/climbing and then once you’re plotted up for a bit, you then wear this along with other layers to trap the heat in and keep you warm. If you use it as it’s designed let me tell you, it’s perfect.
The sheer warmth of this jacket is phenomenal and for the amount of down it’s filled with its incredibly lightweight. I bought the black one which has a bright red inside, so should you need to be seen in an emergency just turn it inside out and wear it that way. The design features on it are brilliant, the hood is the best hood I’ve had on any jacket, it’s also filled with down and you can cinch it down to really fit your head.
For anyone with the cash to splash looking for an everyday dog walking, commute type wearing jacket I’d say it would still work if not a little overkill but for anyone into climbing, walking or general outdoor events where you may spend time stood/sat around in the cold and rain, it’s perfect for the winter months of December to Feb. All in all I love this coat, yes it was expensive but you get what you pay for.

Rab Batura Jacket

I did a lot of research before buying this jacket, I looked at all the similar jackets across the board before taking the plunge for this one.
Some considerations for insulated jackets is the weight, the fit and the comfort in use. I read a lot of reviews that it’s a larger fit and that it was too warm for the UK environment.
I’m 6’2” and 14-15 stone, varying and I went for a large. With a tight fitting base layer and thin mid layer this is perfect. Although I don’t always plan on wearing base layers with it and the fit would still be good. The arms length is perfect, the hem drop and waist size is perfect. So I’d say it’s true to size and the rab size chart worked well for me. I’ve got to drop a thanks to LD staff who I emailed asking about this jacket before hand and they were massively helpful, so kudos for that. This jacket is very light, I mean really light for how warm it is. As for it being too much for the UK weather, I’d beg to differ. I live in high peak and the weather here is sub zero in the winter times. Yes, I would not wear this walking a trek or to scramble in, certainly not to summit any mountain because you would rapidly over heat but it’s not designed to be worn in those circumstances. This jacket is perfect for stationary moments between movement, so once you’ve reached the top of say Ben Nevis, you’d put it on for your brew to trap in heat and then take it off for walking down again.
On a day to day use, ie dog walkers, commuters getting the train etc it would be a great jacket if not massively overkill! But you get what you pay for, it’s expensive but it’s probably a jacket you’d never need to replace. It’s warm, it’s waterproof it looks smart. It isn’t a typical down jacket that makes you look like a massive marshmallow, it’s stylish and functional. The hood is down filled as well which is a really good design thought.
In summary it fits well and looks smart. It’s ideal for very very cold environments. If you’ve got the money to spend on it and want to have a very warm waterproof jacket, go for it.
