In 1970 Jean-Pierre Crabos chose Louis Audoubert as technical adviser for Pyrenex and thus created their first mountaineering jackets. Louis Audoubert, who had climbed in the Pyrenees and the Himalayas, is known for his expeditions all over the world. He blazed a trail for many ascents in the Mont Blanc massif, the Oisans and the Himalayas, and completed the first East-West crossing of the Pyrenees. These down jackets developed specifically for him accompanied him on many great expeditions.
The very first Pyrenex jackets were essentially technical garments, designed to protect and insulate the wearer in the most extreme conditions. Louis Audoubert, also a photographer, film-maker and public speaker who pioneered the first canyoneering descents in the Pyrenees and Spain, remained faithful to Pyrenex. A shared adventure that lasted for years and made him an icon of the Pyrenex spirit of innovation and independence.
Understandably, Pyrenex jackets are made with impeccable craftsmanship, and to a quality which is difficult to match, let alone beat.
