Berghaus Helvellyn Pant Features:
A short leg version of the Helvellyn Pant from Berghaus, a classic Gore-Tex Performance Shell waterproof pant, designed for all season use and comfort. The strong and durable face fabric makes these waterproof over trousers hard wearing yet still lightweight and very breathable for all day comfort. At LD Mountain Centre we really like the long side zips, which make these waterproof trousers easy to get on and off. The generous fit gives them great freedom of movement, not always a feature of over trousers.

The Berghaus Helvellyn waterproof trousers do exactly what they say on the tin and are fully breathable and (more importantly) waterproof, packed with useful features.
I have only used the trousers once (due to the lack of rain) and they performed brilliantly with water beading off the surface, instead of sitting on it. The trousers are also highly breathable (which is expected since they’re Gore-Tex) so that unlike most other overtrousers you don’t get damp legs.
Water resistant ¾ length zips run down each leg, which makes putting the trousers on (and taking them off) a doddle, however this can prove tricky with those of us with large feet, as the mesh liner on the inside of the trousers can get snagged on your boots. The zips can also be used for venting, as there’s a second zip at the top of the thigh which can be zipped down, letting a load of heat out, keeping you cool. This second zip can also be used as a makeshift pocket, to get into your trouser pockets, however this can prove difficult (unless you’re a contortionist).
For those that are concerned about the water resistant zip there’s an internal flap (in a fetching red colour) which is waterproof, preventing any rain which gets through the zip getting to you, keeping you nice and dry.
Berghaus has also added a few other nifty features into the trousers, including articulated knees, so that when you lift your leg the trouser doesn’t ride up above the ankle. Speaking about the ankle, ‘kick pads’ have been added to the inside of the leg, making the trouser more abrasion resistant around this area. On the outside of the leg (at the base of the zips) press studs have been added so you can draw the trouser leg in, giving it a more fitted look.
The only real downside of the Helvellyn is that like other ‘high-end’ waterproof trousers a stuff sac isn’t included, but apart from that Berghaus has made a fantastic pair waterproof trousers.
Also I would like to praise LD Mountain Centre, as delivery only took 2 days and (as of August 2016) the only outdoor supplier to stock the Helvellyn in short leg, apart from Berghaus, obviously.
