Arc'teryx Cierzo 18 Rucksack Features:
The smallest of Arc'teryx's Cierzo range, this pack has a zip closure for easy access to its contents. Grams were further shred by going to unpadded, 1.5 inch webbing shoulder straps. The lightweight textiles are coated with silicone and polyurethane for moisture resistance and increased durability and the entire pack can easily be stowed in its front pouch. This pack is a minimalist's dream.
Bought this rucksack to be packable inside hand luggage or other bigger bags, to use as a small daypack on trips. It does this very well. When empty it squashes down to about the size of a 500 ml water bottle and handily folds into its own outer pocket. When in use it's a good size to carry day items like warm clothes, waterbottle, sandwiches, small camera etc. I wouldn't really want to use it for heavy duty use like carrying very heavy things (say substantial SLR camera kit) over huge distances, which is not what it is made for (the shoulder straps are unpadded wide webbing, there is no frame, etc). Like all Arcteryx kit it is very well made, and has good quality, water resistant zips, and looks like it will last a long time to justify its moderately high price. The waist strap is probably a bit meaningless in such a small bag, and might sit a bit high on taller people, but I guess you could always cut it off if not wanted. The bag has a stiffened loop around the outside which presumably is intended for clipping on climbing gear. Haven't used this but it doesn't really get in the way when folding down the bag. Overall, a nicely made bag that does the job well.
